Senate Speaker Amason Jefferson Kingi has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of his bodyguard, Corporal John Lwane Lumumba.
In a condolence message on January 2, 2026, Kingi described the loss as shocking, saying the late officer passed away unexpectedly just moments after they had spent time together.
“Gone too soon my young brother. The cruel hand of death has snatched you so fast. One minute we are having a walk and chatting jovially and the next minute I’m called to be informed that you are no more,” he said.
The Speaker noted that Lumumba was more than a member of his security detail, describing him as family.
“To me you were not just a bodyguard, you were family,” Kingi said.
He eulogised the late corporal as a disciplined and committed officer whose professionalism, loyalty and dedication to duty earned him respect among colleagues.
Kingi concluded his tribute by wishing the fallen officer eternal rest, saying, “Rest in peace, Cpl. John Lwane Lumumba.”
