In Summary

In a press statement dated December 16 and released on December 19, the bureau noted that Kibet’s efforts helped maintain stability and continuity in the execution of KLB’s mandate while the leadership transition was underway.

George Wanga has officially taken over as the Managing Director of the Kenya Literature Bureau, with the appointment effective from December 11, 2025, the bureau confirmed. The move signals a fresh leadership chapter aimed at strengthening the institution’s role in educational publishing and ensuring smoother operations across the board.

Prior to this role, Wanga served as the non-executive chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority. He succeeds Paul Kibet, who had been serving in an acting capacity, and the bureau expressed gratitude for his dedication during the transitional period.

In a press statement dated December 16 and released on December 19, the bureau noted that Kibet’s efforts helped maintain stability and continuity in the execution of KLB’s mandate while the leadership transition was underway.

The statement highlighted that Wanga’s appointment followed the prescribed recruitment and vetting procedures, reflecting KLB’s commitment to reinforcing strong leadership and improving institutional efficiency.

The bureau added that Wanga’s experience in public administration, strategic planning, and educational publishing will be instrumental in advancing ongoing reforms and modernisation initiatives.

“As Managing Director, Mr Wanga will be responsible for the overall administration of the Bureau and the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at advancing KLB’s mission,” the statement read in part.

The bureau said its mission focuses on producing and distributing high-quality educational and general reading materials to support Kenya’s national development agenda. It noted that KLB has a long history of shaping the country’s educational publishing landscape.

KLB publishes curriculum-aligned learning materials for schools, while also catering to general readers with storybooks, autobiographies, and e-books.

The bureau operates in multiple languages and provides advanced translation and printing services, positioning itself as a key contributor to learning and knowledge dissemination.

The bureau’s head office and printing facilities are located in South C, Nairobi, while it maintains a sales and customer service centre in the central business district to serve its readers and clients.

With Wanga at the helm, the bureau reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable learning resources and high-quality services for learners, teachers, and institutions. The leadership change, it said, is part of wider efforts to strengthen internal systems, enhance efficiency, and respond to the evolving needs of the education sector.

The statement concluded that KLB will continue implementing its policies under the new leadership, and Wanga is expected to guide the bureau as it navigates reforms aligned with national education priorities and emerging demands in publishing and educational materials.
