President William Ruto has nominated Francis Meja for appointment as the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The announcement, made on Wednesday by Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, said the nomination follows constitutional procedures for state appointments and has been sent to the National Assembly for vetting and approval.
"His Excellency the President has today nominated Mr Francis Meja for appointment as the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission," the statement read in part.
Meja joined the PSC in January 2025 and his promotion would position him at the helm of one of the country’s key constitutional commissions responsible for overseeing public service management.
Before his tenure at the PSC, Meja served as the founding Director-General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), where he led the establishment of the agency and implemented transport safety reforms.
He also held the role of Registrar of Motor Vehicles at the Ministry of Transport, further strengthening his experience in government administration.
In addition to his government work, Meja has served as a council member of Murang’a University of Technology, gaining hands-on experience in institutional governance. He also brings over 15 years of senior management experience in banking and financial services. Meja holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi.
His nomination comes at a time when the PSC plays a critical role in guiding public sector reforms, managing human resource policies, and ensuring accountability within government institutions.
