Taxpayers across the country will not be able to access Kenya Revenue Authority’s iTax platform this weekend as the agency carries out a scheduled system upgrade. The authority said the temporary shutdown is meant to allow for routine maintenance to keep the online service running smoothly.
In a public statement released on Friday evening, KRA announced that the iTax system will go offline from Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 8:00 PM to Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 12:00 AM. The downtime, expected to take about four hours, will affect all services linked to the digital platform.
“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax from Saturday, 25th October 2025, 8:00 PM to Sunday, 26th October 2025, 12:00 AM,” the notice read in part.
During that period, users will not be able to file returns, generate payment slips, update their tax profiles, or request compliance certificates. KRA said the short disruption is part of its effort to improve system performance and provide a better experience for taxpayers.
The authority apologized to users for the inconvenience and urged both individuals and businesses to plan ahead. It advised those with urgent filings or payments to complete them before the maintenance window begins on Saturday evening.
KRA explained that periodic upgrades are necessary to ensure its online infrastructure remains dependable as more people turn to digital services. The agency has invested heavily in improving its systems to make tax processes easier, faster, and more transparent.
Launched in 2014, the iTax system has transformed how taxpayers interact with the revenue body by moving most services online. It has become the main gateway for millions of users seeking to file, pay, and manage their tax obligations without visiting physical offices.
The tax agency said it remains committed to maintaining a reliable and efficient platform that supports Kenya’s growing digital economy.
