Under the first phase of the NYOTA Start-Up Capital programme, each participant will get Sh25,000. Out of this amount, Sh22,000 will be sent directly to the beneficiary’s Pochi la Biashara account to help with immediate business needs.

President William Ruto on Wednesday oversaw the release of Sh220.5 million in NYOTA start-up capital to 8,820 young entrepreneurs drawn from Kisii, Nyamira, and Migori counties, in a move aimed at boosting youth-led businesses and job creation.

The funds were issued during a ceremony held at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County, marking a key step in the government’s plan to support young people to start and grow enterprises.

It was attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Education CS Julius Ogamba, Kisii Governor Simba Aramba, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed, and Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro, among others.

Before receiving the funds, the beneficiaries completed a compulsory four-day training programme that focused on entrepreneurship, financial skills and business development. The training was meant to equip them with practical knowledge to launch, expand and manage their ventures.

Under the first phase of the NYOTA Start-Up Capital programme, each participant will get Sh25,000. Out of this amount, Sh22,000 will be sent directly to the beneficiary’s Pochi la Biashara account to help with immediate business needs, while Sh3,000 will be placed in a Haba na Haba Savings Account managed by the National Social Security Fund.

In the second phase of the programme, the beneficiaries will receive another Sh25,000, bringing the total start-up support to Sh50,000 per entrepreneur.

The NYOTA programme is a national initiative targeting young business owners and aims to expand access to finance, strengthen small enterprises and promote steady sources of income across the country.
