The leadership revamp saw Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed removed from his position as Secretary General. He has been replaced by ODM’s Suba South MP Caroli Omondi.

Wiper Democratic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been named Party Leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition following a strategic leadership overhaul approved by the coalition’s top organs under the chairmanship of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The changes, aimed at strengthening internal coordination and sharpening the coalition’s national political agenda ahead of the 2027 elections, were confirmed by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).

In correspondence acknowledging receipt of the resolutions, ORPP Registrar John Cox Lorionokou wrote: “This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 2nd February 2026, on the joint meeting of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council of 2nd February 2026.”

The leadership revamp saw Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed removed from his position as Secretary General. He has been replaced by ODM’s Suba South MP Caroli Omondi.

The ORPP confirmed the removal in its letter: “This Office acknowledges receipt of a letter dated 2nd February addressed to Hon. Junet Mohamed on his removal from the office of the Secretary General.”

Former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia was also appointed Executive Director, tasked with overseeing daily operations, coordinating policy implementation, and strengthening the coalition’s administrative structure.

Registrar Lorionokou advised the coalition to regularise the appointments in accordance with the law. “The political party is advised to publish the change of officials in line with Section 20 of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D,” he noted.

Azimio described the changes as necessary due to “evolving political circumstances” that demanded swift and strategic leadership adjustments. “The goal is to foster greater cohesion, effectiveness and unity as the coalition advances its agenda for the nation,” the coalition said in a statement.

With Kalonzo at the helm, the coalition now aims to translate the reshuffle into renewed political momentum both on the ground and in Parliament.
