The Gazette notice refers to previous land acquisition notices dating back to 2016, highlighting the phased implementation of the LAPSSET project. The inclusion of the Kamuthe parcel ensures that all land required for the project’s infrastructure in Garissa County is properly secured.

The National Land Commission (NLC) has announced plans to include a 960.67-hectare tract in Kamuthe, Garissa County, as part of the ongoing LAPSSET Corridor Project. A compensation hearing for affected landowners and stakeholders is scheduled for December 3, 2025, giving them the opportunity to present ownership documents and claims.

According to Gazette Notice No. 15357, signed by NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi, the inquiry will be held at the Garissa Town D.C.C. Office starting at 10 am.

The hearings will allow the Commission to verify ownership, assess claims, and facilitate compensation in line with Sections 112 and 162(2) of the Land Act (Cap. 280) and Part VIII of the legislation.

The NLC, a constitutional body responsible for managing public land on behalf of national and county governments, also oversees compulsory acquisition for public purposes and ensures fair access to land.

The Land Act empowers the Commission to conduct inquiries, confirm ownership, and coordinate payments to individuals and organizations affected by government projects.

The LAPSSET Corridor Project, led by the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, is a major national initiative designed to improve regional connectivity and drive economic growth.

It aims to link Kenya with neighbouring countries through highways, pipelines, and industrial infrastructure, alongside supporting facilities for logistics and trade.

The upcoming inquiry provides a platform for residents and communities affected by the project to submit claims for compensation.

Individual claimants must provide a copy of their National Identity Card, Personal Identification Number (PIN), proof of land ownership, and bank account details. Corporate entities are required to submit their certificate of incorporation, CR12 form, company KRA PIN, and identification documents for all directors.

Those unable to attend on the day can submit documents in advance at the Commission’s offices on the 3rd Floor, Room 305, Ardhi House, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi.

The Gazette notice refers to previous land acquisition notices dating back to 2016, highlighting the phased implementation of the LAPSSET project. The inclusion of the Kamuthe parcel ensures that all land required for the project’s infrastructure in Garissa County is properly secured.

“The inclusion of this parcel is part of the government’s continuing effort to develop the LAPSSET Corridor while ensuring that community interests are protected,” the notice stated.

Kabale Tache Arero, MBS, representing the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, said the Authority is working closely with the NLC to ensure that all procedures comply with Kenyan law.

The Commission reminded stakeholders that documentation must be complete and submitted by December 3, warning that late claims will not be accepted.

By expanding land coverage for the project, the government aims to secure parcels essential for the successful implementation of the LAPSSET infrastructure, opening new economic opportunities while maintaining transparency and fairness for all affected parties.
