Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on residents of Mt. Kenya to remain steadfast in supporting the Kenya Kwanza government, stressing that their continued cooperation will ensure the region benefits from nationwide development projects.

Speaking at a youth empowerment gathering in Mathira, Nyeri County, Kindiki urged leaders to prioritize unity and avoid divisive politics, warning that attacking national leaders could harm their constituents.

“Members of Parliament are elected to represent their constituents in the National Assembly, but the moment a leader strays and badmouths the President and the national leaders, they will lose big time and their constituency will lag behind. Those who have decided to abuse other leaders will face the wrath of wananchi,” he said.

Addressing concerns of regional divisions, Kindiki highlighted the enduring unity of the Ameru, Embu, and Gikuyu communities since independence.

“We have stayed as one community, and the Meru People have never betrayed this region. The Meru people have stuck together, from our brothers from Central and Embu from Independence until now we are one Community. Our leaders including Kiraitu Murungi, David Mwiraria, among others, stood with the late Mwai Kibaki to the end even when he was fighting in other parts of Central Kenya. So let us be wise and avoid anger even as we seek leadership of this country in the future,” he said.

Kindiki commended Nyeri County leaders for their resolve to remain in government despite pressures to oppose President Ruto, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to the public rather than personal gain.

“We elected this government and we must stay put until what was promised to us as a region is fulfilled, even myself I rejected calls from some of my brothers to leave government. I am very clear in my mind, the decision taken by the leadership of Nyeri County led by our senator, women representative and other leaders is in the interest of the people they represent. History will judge you correctly,” he said.

The Deputy President also cautioned politicians circulating hate speech and empty rhetoric that they will encounter strong resistance when election campaigns commence. He reiterated that the President is focused on delivering promises, fast-tracking development, and uniting Kenyans.

On infrastructure and economic projects, Kindiki assured residents that the dualling of the Karatina-Nanyuki-Isiolo Road, mentioned in the President’s recent State of the Nation address, will move forward. He also outlined initiatives targeting small-scale traders, including modern fresh produce markets, affordable housing, technical and vocational student hostels, and NYOTA programmes.

“Nyeri County has been allocated Sh868 Million for the last mile electricity connectivity that will benefit over 10,000 new households. We have also made an additional Sh600 Million to make a total of Sh1.4 billion Shillings to Nyeri County to cater for other areas that have low uptake,” he said.

The DP was joined by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Nyeri Women Rep Rahab Mukami, Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina, Nyeri Town MP Daniel Mathenge, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina Wachieni, Energy PS Alex Wachira, Gender and Affirmative Action PS Njoki Anne Wang'ombe, and several Nyeri County MCAs.
