The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has set March 15, 2026, as the final date for all Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) to submit their audited financial statements.
In a notice released on Friday, January 9, the authority said the submission period runs from January 1 to March 15, 2026, in line with Section 41 of the SACCO Societies Act.
"Notice is hereby issued to all SACCO boards, supervisory committees, management and auditors to submit audited financial statements," SASRA directed.
The regulator emphasized that meeting this deadline will allow sufficient time for the review and approval of the accounts by March 31, 2026, in preparation for the SACCOs’ Annual General Meetings (AGMs). "Submission Period is from January to March 15 2026, to allow approval by March 31, 2026.
Early submission enables timely approval and smooth conduct of AGMs," it added.
SASRA also clarified that the process of approving audited accounts is free of charge, addressing concerns that SACCOs might incur regulatory fees. The authority encouraged boards, management teams, and auditors to submit their documents early to prevent last-minute bottlenecks.
The regulator further advised stakeholders to reach out for clarification through its official communication channels, including the toll-free line 0800724422 and email.
Under Kenyan law, SACCOs must submit audited financial statements to safeguard members’ deposits and ensure the stability of the cooperative. These reports verify that members’ savings are properly accounted for and help prevent financial mismanagement.
Failure to submit audited accounts within the set period will result in the SACCO being classified as non-compliant, leaving it vulnerable to penalties under the SACCO Societies Act.
