Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will release the 2025 KJSEA results on December 11, 2025. He stated that the national examinations are a key measure of a student’s readiness to transition into senior secondary schools.

Grade nine students who sat for the 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) can now access their selected senior schools using a mobile phone. Safaricom has enabled parents and learners to check school placements by sending the student’s assessment number via SMS at a cost of Sh30.

"To check a KJSEA learner's selected schools, send their assessment number to 22263. The SMS costs Sh30," the telecommunications company stated in a notice sent on December 4. Upon sending the SMS, users will receive a list of schools aligned with the learner’s chosen academic pathway.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will release the 2025 KJSEA results on December 11, 2025. He stated that the national examinations are a key measure of a student’s readiness to transition into senior secondary schools.

The Ministry of Education reported that a total of 1,130,669 learners sat for the KJSEA examinations conducted between October 27 and November 3, 2025. Parents can also access school choices and academic pathways online through KNEC’s portal at https://selection.education.go.ke/my-selections by entering their child’s assessment number.

Unlike the now phased-out Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), learners will not receive certificates. Instead, they will be issued result slips showing performance in each subject.

The KJSEA evaluates students across multiple subjects, including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Religious Education, Agriculture, Pre-Technical Studies, Creative Arts, and Physical Education.

Sixty percent of the final score comes from KJSEA results, while classroom assessments from Grades 7 and 8 contribute the remaining 40 percent. This integrated assessment aims to provide a complete picture of each student’s strengths and abilities.

Placement in senior schools will consider the student’s performance and alignment with career pathways. The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for Grades 10 to 12 introduces structured pathways, subjects, and school types tailored to learners’ interests and future goals.

Senior schools may operate as triple pathway institutions offering all three routes, or double pathway schools offering combinations such as STEM with Arts and Sports (STEAMS) or STEM with Social Sciences (STEMS).

Schools can be single-sex or mixed, with specialized institutions for learners with special needs, including vocational senior schools. Learners may also attend day or hybrid schools.

Senior schools still follow the traditional four-tier categorization: C1 – National, C2 – Extra County, C3 – County, and C4 – Sub-County.

The Ministry expects the placement process to begin within a week of the results’ release. Students will be able to access their letters before December 25, 2025, and report to their new schools by January 12, 2026.
