In Summary

The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain has warned Americans of possible drone, missile and terrorist attacks, urging them to avoid Manama hotels, follow shelter guidance and enroll in the STEP security program.

The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain on Monday urged citizens in the Gulf nation to exercise caution and maintain vigilance as drone and missile attacks from Iran continue.

Officials warned that hotels in Manama could be targeted and advised Americans to avoid them. The advisory says terrorist groups are intent on attacks, may strike with little warning, and urges citizens to follow safety guidance.

In its advisory, the Embassy warned that “terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad” and stated that “terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in Bahrain.”

The warning comes amid ongoing security concerns in the region and heightened alert levels.

For emergencies, the advisory directs individuals to “Dial 999 for emergency services in Bahrain.”

It also provides contact details for the U.S. State Department’s Consular Affairs office, listing the numbers “+1-888-407-4747 & 1-202-501-4444.”

U.S. citizens in Bahrain may also contact the consular section directly at “+973-1724-2700” or via email at “[email protected].” Additional information is available at “https://bh.usembassy.gov/.”

The Embassy outlined specific safety actions for citizens to follow. It advised that if individuals hear a loud explosion or if sirens are activated, they should “immediately seek cover.”

Those inside a home or building are instructed to go to the lowest level of the structure with the fewest exterior walls, windows, and openings, close any doors, and sit near an interior wall, away from any windows or openings.”

If outdoors, citizens should immediately seek cover in a hardened structure; if that is not possible, lie down and cover their head with their hands.

The advisory also cautioned that even if the incoming missile or drone is intercepted, falling debris represents a significant risk.

After any attack, citizens are told to “stay away from any debris, and monitor major news outlets for official guidance.”

The Embassy encouraged people to refer to its website for the latest updates at “https://bh.usembassy.gov/category/alert/.”

It also urged enrollment in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, known as STEP, at “https://mytravel.state.gov/s/step.”

According to the advisory, “STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency.”

In addition to responding to immediate threats, the Embassy reminded citizens to “be aware of your surroundings,” and to “avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings, and areas where there is a heavy police presence.”

It further advised citizens to monitor official information sources.

The alert reflects continuing regional instability linked to drone and missile activity, with the Embassy emphasizing preparedness and vigilance rather than specific incidents.

The guidance focuses on preventive measures, emergency contacts, and communication channels intended to support U.S. citizens in Bahrain during heightened security conditions.

Officials reiterated that attacks can occur rapidly and unpredictably, reaffirming the importance of following official instructions and staying informed through embassy updates and authorized government platforms.

As tensions persist, the advisory serves as a precautionary reminder for U.S. citizens in Bahrain to adhere closely to safety recommendations and emergency procedures outlined by the Embassy.
