First Lady Rachel Ruto has called on Kenyans to embrace faith, unity, and caution as they travel to celebrate the festive season with family and loved ones across the country.
In a message on Monday, Mama Rachel reflected on the spiritual significance of Christmas, expressing gratitude for life, fellowship, and the hope symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ.
“To all Kenyans travelling to be with loved ones, may God grant you safe passage on our roads, protect every journey, and bring you home in peace. May this season be filled with joy and meaningful moments as we celebrate the greatest gift ever given to the world,” she said.
She underscored the importance of prayer and collective responsibility during a period traditionally marked by increased travel and family reunions.
Quoting scripture, she invoked divine protection for Kenyans on the move, urging motorists and travellers to prioritise safety while journeying during the busy holiday season.
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” – Psalm 121:8
“As the Christmas season unfolds and families across our beautiful nation come together, we give thanks for the precious gift of life, the warmth of fellowship, and the enduring hope ushered in by the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wishing you blessed travels, joyful reunions, and a Christmas filled with love, gratitude, and hope,” the message read.
The message comes at a time when thousands of Kenyans are travelling from urban centres to rural homes to mark Christmas, a tradition that often leads to congestion on major highways and heightened concern over road safety.
Authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to observe traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, and exercise patience to reduce accidents during the festive period.
The Christmas period also provides an opportunity for national reflection, with messages from leaders often focusing on unity, peace, and care for one another. Mama Rachel Ruto’s message aligns with this tradition, blending spiritual reflection with a practical appeal for safety and mindfulness.
As celebrations continue across the country, families are expected to gather for worship, meals, and fellowship, marking one of the most significant dates in the Christian calendar.
For many, the message serves as both a blessing and a reminder to prioritise life, faith, and togetherness as Kenyans mark Christmas.
This comes at the backdrop of the rising number of accidents across the country as a result of the Christmas rush.
Police have intensified crackdowns on non-compliant motorists and unroadworthy vehicles.
