An intelligence-driven police operation in Migori County has led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of a homemade firearm and other weapons in Nyametaburo Location.

In a statement on Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said its officers in Isebania, working together with K9 handlers from Isebania Police Station, acted on a tip-off and stormed a homestead in Makerero Village. The target was 51-year-old James Mukwabe Soko, whose house was searched thoroughly.

Inside the house, detectives discovered a locally made gun hidden beneath a sofa. They also recovered a single bullet wrapped in aluminium foil. Items suspected to have been used to aid criminal activities were also found, including a metal rod, a blue balaclava, a dotted dera dress, a black marvin, and a black jacket believed to have been used to conceal the weapon.

Following his arrest, Soko directed officers to another residence within Nyametaburo, where a second suspect, Daniel Muronge Rioba, was taken into custody. A search at his house led to the recovery of a Maasai sword stored in a red sheath.

Early investigations have revealed that Soko is not new to crime, with several cases already before the Kehancha Law Courts.

The two suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, and police say they will be presented in court once the process is finalised.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said it remains focused on tracking down criminal elements and ensuring the safety of the public.
