Detectives in Kisumu have arrested three people linked to the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, following an incident that took place at Java House in West End Mall and triggered public concern over rising cases of political violence.
The three suspects identified as Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje (24) from Nyalenda, Eric Otieno alias Dude (39) from Manyatta, and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga (27) from Nyalenda are in police custody and are being processed for arraignment in court as investigations continue.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and identify all those involved.
“Investigations have been intensified, with detectives actively pursuing additional suspects linked to the incident,” the statement read.
The DCI added that more individuals connected to the assault are still being traced, with officers working to ensure all those responsible are brought to account.
Authorities also acknowledged support from members of the public who have shared information to assist in the probe.
“We thank members of the public who have volunteered useful information to aid the ongoing investigations and urge continued cooperation as detectives work to bring all perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigations progress,” DCI added statement
The arrests come at a time when political leaders and members of the public have raised alarm over what they describe as a rise in organized groups linked to violence, especially as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.
Leaders from the Western caucus of lawmakers have called on the Inspector General of Police to act on individuals captured on CCTV footage during the attack, urging swift action to restore public confidence.
“We are therefore calling upon the Inspector General of Police to ensure a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this attack. Those captured on CCTV footage must be identified, apprehended without delay, and arraigned in court to face the full force of the law,” the leaders said.
They further warned against attempts to intimidate leaders or communities, saying they will continue to support Senator Osotsi in his political activities.
“As a community, we will not be intimidated by anyone, the community and a cabal of criminal adherents. We stand solidly behind Senator Osotsi in pursuit of his political dream,” they added.
