The Kenya Tea Development Agency Holdings Ltd has named Francis Miano as its Acting Group Chief Executive Officer following the exit of Wilson Muthaura, who has proceeded on terminal leave.
In a statement issued on Friday, KTDA Holdings Chairman Chege Kirundi said Miano takes over the role with effect from January 16, 2026, as the agency undertakes a leadership transition at the top.
“Eng Miano brings extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge to the role,” Kirundi said.
“The Board is confident in his ability to provide steady leadership as the organisation transitions.”
Miano is a registered professional engineer and has served at KTDA for several years, where he currently heads the Group Technical Services Division. His appointment comes at a time when the agency is implementing operational and strategic reforms across the tea value chain.
He is a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and has over 30 years of professional and managerial experience. KTDA said his strong technical background and long involvement in the organisation place him in a good position to guide the agency through ongoing changes.
The Board also paid tribute to the outgoing chief executive, acknowledging his contribution during his time at the helm.
“The Board expresses its sincere appreciation to Muthaura for his dedicated service to the organisation and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” Kirundi added.
Muthaura’s exit marks the latest leadership change at KTDA, which manages the affairs of more than 600,000 smallholder tea farmers through a wide network of factories and subsidiaries across the country.
In recent years, the agency has rolled out reforms aimed at improving farmer earnings, strengthening governance structures, and boosting efficiency in tea production and marketing.
KTDA said the leadership change will not disrupt operations and assured farmers and other stakeholders that service delivery will continue without interruption.
