In Summary

Speaking on Sunday during a campaign tour in Kivue, where he drummed up support for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wamuthende (Leo), Kindiki said the constituency should not be turned into a battleground for individuals seeking to settle political scores after losing government positions.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged voters in Mbeere North Constituency to reject what he termed as vengeful and deceptive politics ahead of the forthcoming by-election.

He warned residents against candidates and leaders who, he said, were attempting to exploit local frustrations for personal political comebacks.

“You were assigned huge duties to help the President serve the people, but you chose sabotage, threats and intimidation,” the Deputy President said, in reference to unnamed political rivals.

“Now you are out here lying to people to follow you into the opposition.”

Kindiki told residents that Mbeere North must prioritise continuity of development projects already underway under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He challenged the electorate not to be swayed by leaders he accused of incompetence during their time in office.

“We cannot do such a foolish thing because this is the government we elected. We cannot go to the opposition, yet there are many development projects lined up in our area,” he said.

The Deputy President described UDA’s Leonard Leo as the only candidate focused on service delivery rather than political theatrics.

He lauded Leo’s campaign as issue-based, disciplined and respectful, contrasting it with what he called the insult-driven rhetoric of his competitors.

“Leo is a respectful leader. He has clearly explained what he plans to do to ensure ongoing development projects are completed and commencement of others. There is no day he has insulted anyone, even his competitors,” he said.

Kindiki expressed confidence that the UDA candidate would clinch the seat, insisting the victory would reflect the constituency’s desire for development-centred leadership.

He dismissed attacks against his office by rival politicians, asserting that he is constitutionally in office and fully committed to supporting President William Ruto in delivering government programs.

“I am duly in office as the Deputy President of Kenya by right. I am assisting the President serve the people of Kenya,” he affirmed.

As campaigns intensify, the Mbeere North by-election has become a critical test of political influence in Embu County, with Kenya Kwanza seeking to consolidate its grip on the region.

For Kindiki, however, the stakes extend beyond party strength: he framed the contest as a choice between progress and what he described as a return to “insults and revenge politics.”
