Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on political leaders and voters to lower the political temperature ahead of the by-elections scheduled for Thursday, urging citizens in Mbeere North to support United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates.

Speaking at the Full Gospel Church of Kenya in Kanthoki, Evurore Ward on Sunday, the Deputy President sought to reassure his audience that the ongoing political debates need not spark unnecessary tension.

“I want to ask all of us, especially the political class to tone down the fierce political heat that is being generated by the ongoing debate. There is no need to worry. We are the masters of this political game. At the right time, I will play our cards properly,” Kindiki said.

He exuded confidence in the ruling party’s ability to secure victory, citing his personal track record in political contests.

“I have no record of losing any political contest. We win always, we don't lose because we know what to do and when to do it,” he added.

The Deputy President’s remarks come as the country prepares for a series of by-elections, with several Wards expected to go to the polls on Thursday.

UDA is seeking to retain and expand its foothold in these areas, while opposition parties are mounting strong campaigns aimed at challenging the ruling party’s dominance.

Kindiki’s visit to Kanthoki in Evurore Ward, Mbeere North Constituency, was part of a broader outreach strategy by UDA leaders to mobilise grassroots support and ensure strong voter turnout.

In his address, Kindiki emphasised both strategy and discipline, urging voters to remain focused and committed to the party’s objectives.

“I want to appeal to all the voters in the areas where we have by-elections on Thursday this week to vote for UDA Candidates,” he said.

In a statement on Friday, January 23, UDA confirmed Duncan Mukang'u Jnr as its candidate in Evurore Ward and Peterson Njeru Njiru, popularly known as Weche, in Muminji Ward.

"The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party will be fielding Duncan Mukang'u Jnr and Peterson Njeru Njiru (Weche) at Evurore and Muminji Wards during the by-election on 26th February, 2026.

"We commend them for their courage and commitment to leadership, taking a significant step towards representing and serving our people as members of the County Assembly," the statement read.

Former Muminji MCA Newton Kariuki, alias Karish, and former Evurore MCA Duncan Mbui tendered their resignations to vie for the Mbeere North Parliamentary seat.

Their exit triggered the constitutional requirement for a by-election in the affected wards, setting the stage for yet another heightened political activity in Embu.
