Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of attempting to block him and his entourage from accessing Narok Town, where he was scheduled to campaign for Douglas Masikonde, the DCP candidate in the upcoming Narok Ward by-election.
In a statement, Gachagua claimed that clear instructions had been issued by what he described as a “cowardly and brutal regime” to prevent his team from entering the town.
He alleged that security officers had erected roadblocks aimed at stopping the campaign rally.
Gachagua said residents intervened and guided him through alternative village routes that were unknown to the police, allowing him to enter Narok despite the reported obstructions.
He said he was welcomed by what he termed thousands of jubilant supporters from the Democratic Congress Party (DCP).
“The villagers triumphed and we have affirmed that the will of the people is supreme,” he said, adding that the outcome of the November 27 by-election would reflect this.
The former deputy president accused state agencies of employing “blood money, police brutality and excessive force” to intimidate political opponents.
He insisted that such tactics would not deter Kenyans from exercising their political rights.
Gachagua praised Narok residents, particularly young people, for what he described as resilience in the face of attempts to frustrate the campaign.
He maintained that public will could not be suppressed and warned that Kenya “is not an ordinary African country turned into a monarch.”
His remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of the by-election, which has drawn increased attention from national party figures.
The Narok Ward by-election is scheduled for November 27, 2025.
This comes hours after the former DP, in a letter to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over concerns raised by his party over the upcoming by-election urged it to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming by-elections, particularly in Magarini Constituency.
In a statement posted on Monday, Gachagua urged the commission and its chairperson, Edung Ethekon, to maintain neutrality and ensure voters’ confidence in the electoral process.
He appealed to the electoral agency to act firmly and independently,
“We call for the Mr chairman, you protect officials and Magarini and other electoral areas from harassment and intimidation,” he stated
