Kanjama said returns from polling centres across the country showed that members had entrusted him with the mandate to lead the society for the next two years.

Charles Kanjama has outlined his vision for unity and service moments after emerging victorious in the Law Society of Kenya presidential election, saying his focus will be on bringing members together and strengthening the voice of the legal body once results are formally confirmed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Speaking after the tallying of votes, Kanjama said returns from polling centres across the country showed that members had entrusted him with the mandate to lead the society for the next two years. He expressed confidence that the official announcement would affirm what had already been reflected at the polling stations.

“All the polling stations have shown that voters have chosen Charles Kanjama, that is me. They have expressed their confidence in me to lead them in the next two years. We are here at IEBC to confirm this victory,” he said.

Kanjama thanked members of the Law Society of Kenya for turning out to vote and said his leadership would not draw lines between those who supported him and those who backed his competitors. He made it clear that he intends to work with all members in pursuit of a stronger and more united society.

“I would like to thank all voters and the members of the Law Society of Kenya, those who supported my candidature and voted for my opponents and me. I express my confidence in working together with opponents and supporters. We believe in a strong LSK for all,” he said.

“The leadership of LSK matters not just to lawyers but to Kenyans as a whole.”

He noted that the responsibility of leading the society carries weight beyond the legal profession, adding that decisions taken by the body often shape national conversations and affect the wider public.

Kanjama secured 3,728 votes in the hotly contested race. Peter Wanyama garnered 2,616 votes, while Mwaura Kabata received 2,086 votes.

He is set to take over from Faith Odhiambo, whose two-year term comes to an end following the biennial elections.

With over two decades of experience in legal practice, Kanjama now prepares to lead the 2026 to 2028 council at a time when the society continues to play a visible role in national affairs. His win comes amid heightened interest in how the body engages on constitutional and governance issues.

The elections saw advocates vote for the positions of President, Vice President and Council members. The Law Society of Kenya represents more than 20,000 practising advocates across the country.

The 2026 polls began with high interest among members and were marked by early excitement as the association moved to elect leaders for the next two-year cycle.

In the 2024 election, Faith Odhiambo was elected President with 3,113 votes in a contest that featured five candidates.

The latest exercise was overseen by the LSK Elections Board and conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission at High Court stations nationwide, paving the way for a new leadership team.
