Vincent Kiplimo Rutto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has been declared the winner of the Chemundu/Kapng’etuny ward by-election in Nandi County, becoming the area’s new MCA.
The 23-year-old, who is the son of the late MCA Julius Kipruto Keter, secured a commanding victory, reinforcing UDA’s strong presence in the region. Rutto collected 3,999 votes, leaving his competitors far behind in the race for the vacant seat.
Independent candidate Robert Kirwa came third with 225 votes, according to the official results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The by-election followed the death of Julius Kipruto Keter earlier this year. Residents and political observers had closely watched the contest, with many seeing Rutto’s entry as a continuation of his father’s legacy in local leadership.
Rutto’s win underscores the influence of political family ties in the area, as voters appeared eager to maintain continuity in representation. Supporters celebrated the young MCA-elect, citing his potential to build on his father’s work in the ward.
Speaking after the announcement, one resident said, “We believe he will continue the development projects started by his father and serve the community diligently.”
The IEBC confirmed that the election was conducted smoothly, with no major disruptions reported, ensuring a transparent process that reflected the choice of the people of Chemundu/Kapng’etuny ward.
With the new MCA in place, local leaders and residents are now looking forward to ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in the ward, as Vincent Rutto takes office with high expectations from his constituents.
