The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced that the repeat Phase II grassroots elections, initially scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2026, will now be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
In a statement issued on March 31, 2026, by UDA’s National Elections Board Chair, Anthony Mwaura, he said the polls will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the rescheduled date.
“Verification of members' details shall be conducted on April 11 and 12, 2026,” Mwaura stated. He noted that the decision to postpone the grassroots polls followed extensive consultations and considered requests from party members for additional time to register and verify their membership details.
The postponement affects counties including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Turkana, Kajiado, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira.
UDA has invited eligible members to register and confirm their details strictly according to the timelines provided in preparation for the elections.
Meanwhile, officials and members of UDA in Nairobi on Tuesday issued certificates to candidates who won in the party primaries for the forthcoming by-elections.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar underscored the credibility of the process, noting that the party had not received any formal complaints.
“So far, we have not received any complaints regarding this election. That means the exercise you conducted was beyond reproach,” he said.
He described the nominations as a milestone for the party, attributing the success to the adoption of technology in managing the electoral process. Omar congratulated the winners and expressed confidence in their chances in the upcoming by-elections.
“As you look at them today, we believe that by May 14 they will be elected as Members of Parliament and Members of the County Assembly,” he said.
According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), by-elections will be held on May 14, 2026, to fill three vacant elective seats in different parts of the country, including Emurua Dikirr Constituency, following the death of MP Johana N'geno.
In a special gazette notice dated March 13, the commission said the by-elections will take place in Emurua Dikirr Constituency for the position of Member of the National Assembly, and in two county assembly wards - Porro Ward and Endo Ward.
David Kipsang Keter, a three-time opponent of the late former Member of Parliament (MP) Johana Ng’eno, won the Emurua Dikirr United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary party ticket after a nomination process in 96 polling stations.
