Detectives in Siaya County on Tuesday arrested ten suspects linked to a wave of violent robberies and gang rapes following an intelligence-led crackdown targeting criminal networks in the region.
The operation, led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), also resulted in the recovery of crude weapons and suspected stolen mobile phones.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the breakthrough came during a 4 a.m. raid triggered by a series of incidents reported on March 17 and 21, 2026.
The suspects Brian Ochieng, 21, and Titus Omondi, alias “Tito,” 20, were found in possession of stolen handsets. Their subsequent interrogation provided detectives with leads to gang hideouts in Ulafu, Umala, and Ramba villages.
Following these leads, officers staged operations at the dens and arrested eight additional suspects: Julius Odongo Otieno, Elvis Otieno Juma, Castro Odhiambo, Stanley Ochieng alias “Stanoo,” James Otieno Onyango, Stephen Otieno Atieno, Javan Omondi alias “Atego,” and Japhet Shikulu alias “Jeff,” all aged between 17 and 24.
Authorities recovered an assortment of weapons including six pangas, a knife, two spotlights, two dust coats, and four additional suspected stolen mobile phones, all of which have been secured as exhibits.
Addressing the arrests, DCI officials warned, “No criminal will live to enjoy the gain of lawlessness and harm inflicted on anyone resident in the country.”
They further urged members of the public to continue providing information on criminal activities through the Commission’s toll-free hotlines.
The public is encouraged to report anonymously by calling 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000 under the #FichuakwaDCI campaign. “Usiogope,” the DCI added, reinforcing the message that community cooperation is critical in dismantling criminal networks.
This operation marks a significant step in intensifying law enforcement efforts in Siaya County, aiming to curb violent crime and restore safety in the affected communities.
