The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched a probe into allegations that Sh5 million of public funds were misused to host a lavish housewarming at the residence of the Vihiga County Assembly Speaker.
The investigation aims to clarify whether the money, intended for public service, was improperly spent on a private event.
In a letter dated February 12, 2026, and addressed to the Clerk of the Vihiga County Assembly, the commission requested that relevant documents and records be submitted promptly to support the inquiry.
“Please endeavour to provide the documents by 13th February, 2026. Our officers Brian Shigoli and Kevin Lagat, or any other authorised EACC officer, will be available to receive the requested documents and information,” stated Abraham Kemboi, EACC Regional Manager for Central Nyanza.
The commission asked for original or certified copies of requisitions from the user department, approved budgets for the 2023/2024 financial year or other relevant periods, procurement records, payment vouchers, and any additional materials connected to the housewarming event.
The information will help the commission establish whether proper procedures were followed and if public resources were diverted for personal use.
EACC’s move reflects an ongoing effort to hold public officers accountable for expenditure that may violate ethics and anti-corruption regulations. The outcome of the probe could have implications for governance and oversight of county assemblies across the country.
