President William Ruto has reiterated his strong backing for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), calling it a vital tool for expanding education infrastructure across the country.
Speaking at Yussuf Haji Girls Secondary School during its commissioning on Saturday, the President said the fund has transformed learning environments for children in every region.
“I am a great supporter of the national government constituency development fund because it is the fund that has made a difference in providing education infrastructure and facilities for both our children in every part of our country,” Ruto said.
The President called for continued collaboration between the government and private well-wishers to raise education standards, noting that government efforts alone are not enough.
“It is not possible for the government to do it alone. That is why I want, in a very special way, to thank all well-wishers, friends, and everyone else who generously help in uplifting education in one way or another,” he said.
Ruto also paid tribute to the late Senator Yussuf Haji for his pivotal role in improving education in the region.
“I want to thank the late Mzee Mohamed Yussuf Haji for the immense role he played in uplifting the education standards. I am among the many friends that he invited to contribute towards this school's construction,” the President said. “I am happy to see that the contribution we made has gone a long way in the construction of this school and in uplifting the education standards of Northern Kenya, including our girls.”
Highlighting the importance of developing human capital, Ruto stressed that Kenya’s progress toward becoming a first-world country depends on equipping citizens with high-level skills from schools, colleges, and universities.
“Among the things we must prioritise as a nation is developing human capital by ensuring that our men and women gain the highest possible skills in science, STEM subjects, research, and development,” he said. “That is how we are going to use that resource to develop our nation.”
The President further noted that his administration has increased investment in the education sector, with the national allocation rising from Sh500 billion to Sh700 billion in the recent budget.
He said that these investments, combined with NG-CDF support and community contributions, will ensure more equitable access to quality education across the country.
