The Siaya Governor said Raila’s actions during that period demonstrated not only defiance but also deep conviction in justice and democracy.

Siaya Governor James Orengo has paid tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a courageous leader and a true peacemaker.

Speaking during Raila’s burial ceremony at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Bondo, Orengo said the late ODM leader’s bravery and selflessness were unmatched, citing his bold political decisions that shaped Kenya’s history.

“Raila was courageous; he was a brave man,” Orengo said.

“I remember in 2017 when his votes were stolen, Raila decided, with a few of us, that he was going to be sworn in as the people’s president. That is when I knew there are many people who wear trousers but should not.”

The Siaya Governor said Raila’s actions during that period demonstrated not only defiance but also deep conviction in justice and democracy.

He described him as a man who never shied away from standing up for what he believed in, even when it came at great personal cost.

Orengo further praised Raila for his ability to unite political rivals and promote peace, noting that his leadership always sought dialogue over division.

“Raila was a peacemaker, and even today we can see that he can bring Uhuru and Ruto together,” he said.

“That was the spirit of Raila, that the nation can keep talking in unity.”

He added that Raila’s legacy should serve as a reminder that Kenya’s progress depends on courage, dialogue, and unity.

Raila, who served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister and spent decades in public service, will be laid to rest at their Kang’o Ka’Jaramogi home in Bondo, Siaya County.

His funeral drew thousands of mourners, including President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and leaders from across the political divide, who all hailed him as a statesman who dedicated his life to democracy, justice, and peace.

The late Raila Odinga, fondly known as “Baba,” will be laid to rest after days of national mourning, tributes, and prayers from across the country and around the world.
