IEBC emphasized that Continuous Voter Registration is a vital part of Kenya’s election framework, allowing citizens who have turned 18, moved to a new area, or need to correct their personal details to be included on the voters’ roll.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will resume Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in selected constituencies across Kenya starting Monday, January 12, 2026, giving citizens another chance to register or update their voting information ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The move follows a temporary suspension of registration in certain areas during the November 27, 2025, by-elections to protect the integrity of the results.

The constituencies affected include Magarini, Galole, Fafi, Machakos Town, Turkana North and West, Samburu North, Moiben, Keiyo, Ugunja, Chesumei, Tiaty, Baringo North, Central and South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Narok North, Kajiado Central, Khwisero, Kabuchai, Kasipul, West Mugirango, North Mugirango, Borabu, and Embakasi North. Residents are advised to ensure that their voter records are complete and up to date to avoid complications during the elections.

IEBC emphasized that Continuous Voter Registration is a vital part of Kenya’s election framework, allowing citizens who have turned 18, moved to a new area, or need to correct their personal details to be included on the voters’ roll.

“Continuous Voter Registration is a key part of Kenya’s electoral process, allowing for a rolling registration of citizens who attain voting age, relocate, or wish to update personal information on the voters’ roll,” the commission stated in a gazetted notice dated January 9, 2026.

Eligible voters can register or update their information at constituency offices using national identity cards.

The IEBC has also advised citizens to verify their registration status online or at local offices to prevent last-minute issues that could affect their ability to vote. Participation in the CVR process is critical to ensuring all eligible Kenyans are able to exercise their democratic rights.

However, registration and routine updates will remain paused in Mbeere North and Malava Constituencies due to ongoing legal challenges. In Mbeere North, a High Court petition is contesting the election of MP Leo Wa Muthende. Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed Justice Richard Mwongo to oversee the case at Embu High Court.

The legal petition arises from a closely fought by-election held on November 27, 2025, where the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate competed against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). Two voters have filed challenges to Leo Wa Muthende’s win, highlighting the scrutiny surrounding the electoral outcome in the constituency.
