The IEBC has registered 531,185 new voters in just seven days as the nationwide voter registration exercise gains strong momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In its update released on Friday, April 10, 2026, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission said the figures were recorded between April 3 and April 9, 2026, under the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise. This brings the total number of new voter registrations since March 30, 2026, to 875,501.
The Commission said the exercise is being carried out across all 1,450 County Assembly Wards. It is also ongoing in universities and colleges, Huduma Centres, constituency offices, and at the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers.
The registration drive will continue until April 28, 2026, with services available daily, including weekends and public holidays, to allow wider access for eligible citizens.
During the same period, the IEBC recorded 49,502 voter transfer applications and 1,066 updates or corrections of voter details. The Commission said this reflects participation from both new applicants and registered voters making changes to their information.
The electoral body welcomed the turnout, describing it as a strong sign of civic awareness and active public participation in the democratic process.
“In just seven days, we have witnessed a remarkable surge in numbers. This growth is not just a statistic; it is a testament to a nation that is awake, engaged, and ready to take charge of its destiny,” the Commission said in a press statement.
“We wish to extend our sincere appreciation and congratulations to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who have stepped forward to claim their right to vote. To every Kenyan who stood in line this week: thank you for answering the call of your country.”
The Commission also urged eligible citizens who have not yet registered to take advantage of the remaining period and complete the process, noting that voter registration is key to strengthening democratic governance.
“Registering as a voter is the first and most vital step in deepening our democratic roots and ensuring sound, accountable leadership for the next generation. Your country needs you,” the statement read.
At the same time, the IEBC condemned isolated incidents of attacks targeting its staff during the exercise and called on security agencies and members of the public to ensure their safety.
It said protecting election officials remains essential as they carry out what it described as a national responsibility.
The Commission also encouraged registered voters to verify their details to ensure accuracy ahead of the 2027 polls.
With the exercise ongoing, the IEBC said the rising numbers reflect strong civic engagement as the country moves closer to a highly competitive election period.
