Kenya bids farewell to one of its most vibrant personalities as singer, businesswoman, and social influencer Esther Akoth Kokeyo, known to fans as Akothee, officially moves abroad.

The relocation comes after years of anticipation, with Akothee taking her last two daughters along as she closes this chapter of her life in the country.

Through emotional posts on Instagram, Akothee announced her departure. In one message, she said, “Akothee the calculator. Nye Kenya, me and my uterus, we appreciate the time we spent with you in Kenya.” The message, both quirky and tender, conveyed gratitude for her homeland while signaling a permanent farewell.

Her fans responded with a mix of sadness and encouragement. Comments included, “We’ll see you back here in a few. Because there is no place like home” and “We are going with you anyway,” capturing the bittersweet feelings surrounding her exit.

In a short video shared on social media, Akothee explained her reason for returning to Kenya: “to pick up my daughters from Kenya, the only two of my children remaining in this country.” She emphasized that the move was part of a long-term plan to provide her family with better opportunities and a fresh start.

The visit, however, quickly became a serious health ordeal. Akothee recounted, “Lower back pain is no joke!” She described how intense pain struck soon after she landed, saying, “Something was pressing on her spinal cord, making it impossible to lift her left leg.” She also endured “unbearable discomfort” and “excessive bleeding.”

After arriving in Nairobi, she initially sought assistance at a hotel reception but soon required a wheelchair. She was admitted to a local hospital for treatment and reassured her followers, “I am out of danger now.”

Akothee’s move marks the departure of a larger-than-life figure from Kenya’s music, business, and social spheres. From her bold music and the philanthropic initiatives of the Akothee Foundation to her ventures in tourism and outspoken commentary, she has left a lasting impact on the country while often sparking debate.

As she embarks on this new chapter abroad, she expressed her love for her supporters, writing, “I love you my fans and stay safe.”
