A section of members of Parliament from the Mt. Kenya region have reaffirmed their political support for President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki following the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s victories in the just concluded by-elections in Isiolo South, Mbeere North and Malava constituencies.
In a joint press statement issued on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Nairobi, the lawmakers led by Nominated senator Veronica Maina hailed voter turnout in the electoral areas.
“We, the Members of Parliament from the Counties of Kiambu, Murang’a, Meru, Embu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia and Nakuru appreciate the great people of Isiolo South Constituency, Evurore and Muminji Wards in Mbeere North Constituency and West Kabras Ward in Malava Constituency for turning out yesterday and exercising their democratic right in the just concluded by-elections,” Veronica said.
The MPs also congratulated the winning UDA candidates Tubi Mohamed Tubi, Dancun Muratia, Peter Njiru and Elphas Shalakha, describing their victory as a major endorsement of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s leadership.
“Their unassailable triumph is an indisputable show of confidence that the people of Kenya have in the stewardship of President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Administration in steering our great nation from a third-world economic status to a first-world economy within a generation,” the nominated senator said.
According to the leaders, the party’s success across Isiolo South, Evurore, Muminji and West Kabras demonstrates its growing national appeal.
“The clean sweep in Isiolo South, Evurore, Muminji and West Kabras is a confirmation that UDA, led by President Ruto and Deputy Party leader Kithure Kindiki, is a national party, with deep grassroots presence and a solid structure that anchors the implementation of equitable development across the country,” Maina affirmed.
The MPs called on party members to take part in the upcoming grassroots elections slated for March 7, 2026.
“We urge all UDA members to actively and fully participate in the party grassroots elections scheduled for March 7, 2026 and elect their leaders of choice in a free, fair, inclusive and credible exercise,” Maina said.
Reiterating their backing for President Ruto’s economic agenda, the legislators praised what they termed as gains in agricultural production and pricing for key cash crops.
Maina said, “We reiterate our unequivocal support for President Ruto and acknowledge his exemplary leadership that has steered our country in the path of economic stability, tangible development, improved production of food and cash crops, better prices for cash crops such as tea, coffee, milk, macadamia, miraa and muguka that are produced by our farmers and wholeheartedly support his vision of transforming our country from a third world economic status to a first world economy in a generation.”
At the same time, the lawmakers emphasised the need for continued implementation of government projects across the country.
“We reaffirm our belief in the unity and indivisibility of our Country and urge the government to continue developing all parts of Kenya to ensure every Kenyan has access to quality and affordable healthcare through the Universal Health Coverage and complete the construction of ongoing infrastructural projects, including roads and bridges, to facilitate easier, safer and cost-effective movement of people and goods,” read the statement.
The lawmakers further urged the Deputy President to maintain his role in advancing inclusive development.
“We urge Kithure Kindiki to continue assisting the President in advancing the course for equitable development of all parts of our country and access to opportunities for all Kenyans, their religious, political or ethnic affiliations notwithstanding,” Maina affirmed.
They also acknowledged ongoing national unity efforts spearheaded by President Ruto alongside the late Raila Odinga.
“The broad-based arrangement established by President William Ruto and the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga has helped stabilise our country and create a conducive environment for the accelerated roll-out of development projects across the 47 Counties,” the joint statement read.
On the political future ahead of the 2027 General election, the MPs signalled openness to dialogue with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), maintaining that Kindiki remains best suited to continue serving in his current role.
“We, the elected leaders from Mt. Kenya Region, take note of the ongoing discussions in the political scene and demands made by our brothers and sisters from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in relation to the entrenchment of a broad-based arrangement ahead of the 2027 General Election,” Maina said.
She added, “If it is not broken, do not fix it. Kithure Kindiki is and remains the most competent, qualified and deserving person to hold the position of Deputy President today, tomorrow and beyond August 2027 and our support for President Ruto is unequivocal. We support his re-election in the August 2027 Presidential race on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, with Kithure Kindiki as his running mate.”
