Chilling CCTV footage has revealed the final moments of Standard Group Media journalist Amos Harun Maina before he collapsed and died at a bar in Mirema, Nairobi, on November 16, 2025.
In the footage seen by KTN, Maina is seen drinking with a group of bar attendants before he suddenly slumps and dies on the spot while still seated.
A post-mortem on the deceased indicated he had consumed a poisonous substance, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now probing the incident.
The CCTV shows Maina entering the bar at about 4:18 pm on the material day, Sunday and heading to a table where a man and a woman were seated.
He shook hands with both before moving to another table. At 4:30 pm, he joined other revellers and began taking a drink.
Later, at around 4:50 pm, a lady joined him for a brief conversation before Maina stepped away from the table and then sat down again to take his drink.
The footage shows Harun playing pool for a short while, and at 5:05 pm, returning to his table to continue sipping his drink before going back to the pool area.
At 5:08 pm, another lady joined him. By 5:23 pm, he left two ladies he had been engaging for about five minutes.
At 7:47 pm, Amos ordered another drink, which was delivered to his table, with the lady who served him later joining him. A second lady also joined them.
At 7:56 pm, both women stepped away, leaving Harun alone. Moments later, the previously jovial Amos dozed off at the table, remaining in that state for nearly an hour until 9 pm.
At 9:22 pm, Harun’s head slumped lifelessly backwards, which is believed to be the moment he died. CCTV then shows a bartender attempting to lay him on the table.
At 11:02 pm, Amos’s wife is seen entering the club and heading to the table to check on her husband before his limp body is removed from the bar at 11:08 pm by his brother and a friend.
His brother had entered the club at around 10:49 pm and tried to wake him, only to discover that Harun had already passed away.
The DCI is also expected to release a toxicological report on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Amos, who worked as a journalist at Standard Group Plc, was married to Regina Wanjiru and had two children.
