Several leaders from across Kenya’s political spectrum have come forward to condemn Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s controversial remarks regarding Raila Odinga’s death, where the Nyeri County chief appeared to gloat over the demise.
The backlash has been swift and unified, with figures from both government and opposition emphasizing the importance of decency, empathy, and responsible speech in public office.
Other leaders, such as Martha Karua and Tim Wanyonyi, condemned the utterances as reckless and lacking empathy.
Nairobi Senator, Edwin Sifuna, invoked Raila’s legacy of peace and long life, suggesting that Raila himself would have responded with grace rather than hostility.
Jubilee Secretary Jeremiah Kioni clarified that Kahiga spoke only for himself, not for Nyeri, Mt. Kenya, or the nation.
