The organising Committee of the East Africa Inter-Parliamentary (EAC-IPG) championship has been urged to include more games for Members living with disabilities.
Tim Wanyonyi, the captain of the Kenyan Darts team of members living with disabilities, noted that they deserved more representation in sports disciplines in the regional championship.
"We appreciate the Bureau of EAC Speakers for heeding our plea and including Darts for our members in the annual championship. For about 10 editions of the games, members living with disabilities used to attend the games as spectators," said the Westlands MP.
Speaking during a training session at the Ugandan Parliament indoor arena, Wanyonyi said: " Including more sports disciplines will enable more members to participate hence enhance our representation in the regional integration agenda."
He suggested that games such as wheelchair basketball and volleyball, athletics, and chess, among others, should be added to the calendar of activities for the regional competition.
He added that East African Community (EAC) Parliaments had a good number of Members living in with disabilities with talents in various sports and the regional games would give them a good opportunity to explore their talents.
Wanyonyi thanked EAC member States that supported Members living with disabilities to prepare and compete in the regional championship.
Team Kenya are the reigning EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games Darts champions.
