Those convicted are Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, Stephen Asitiva, Jane Wanjiru and Margaret Njeri’s.

Six people have been convicted in connection with the murder of former George Muchai and three others following a lengthy prosecution that relied on dozens of witnesses and multiple criminal charges.

The convictions were secured by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which confirmed that the accused were found guilty of several offences, including robbery with violence and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Those convicted are Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, Stephen Asitiva, Jane Wanjiru and Margaret Njeri.

According to the prosecution, Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani and Asitiva were found guilty on three counts of robbery with violence. The court heard that the four committed a series of violent robberies on the nights of February 6 and 7, 2015.

Prosecutors told the court that the accused robbed three victims—Michael Ngatia, Gladys Waithera and Irene Muthoni—in separate incidents while threatening to use violence.

“The court found Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani and Stephen Asitiva guilty on three counts of robbery with violence,” the ODPP said in a statement following the judgment.

During the robberies, the suspects stole property valued at approximately KSh 1.1 million. Items taken during the attacks included two motor vehicles, a gas cylinder, four mobile phones, a laptop and cash.

In addition to the robbery convictions, Munyera, Margaret Njeri and Jane Wanjiru were separately found guilty of possessing a firearm and ammunition without valid certification.

“The accused persons faced several charges, including robbery with violence, possession of a firearm without a valid firearm certificate, and possession of ammunition without a valid firearm certificate,” the prosecution said.

The case formed part of the broader investigation into the killing of Muchai, who served as Kabete MP before his death. He was killed alongside his two bodyguards and driver in a high-profile attack that shocked the country and prompted a major criminal investigation.

The prosecution said the convictions were secured after presenting a strong evidentiary case supported by testimony from 36 witnesses.

“The convictions were secured after the prosecution presented a strong case supported by testimony from 36 witnesses whose evidence linked the accused persons to the crimes,” the ODPP said.

The case was prosecuted by state counsel Willy Momanyi.

Sentencing for the six convicts is scheduled to take place on March 18, 2026.

Muchai’s killing had drawn widespread public attention due to his political profile and the violent nature of the attack, making the trial one of the notable criminal cases linked to the assassination of a Kenyan legislator.
