President William Ruto is expected to host Muslim leaders for an Eid ul-Fitr luncheon in Kisumu on Friday, marking the start of a packed schedule of meetings and project inspections as he tours the Nyanza region.
The luncheon, set for 1:00 pm at State Lodge, will bring together leaders from the Muslim community as part of the Eid celebrations. Later in the day, the President will hold a high-level meeting with leaders from across Nyanza at 4:00 pm, where discussions are expected to centre on development needs, unity in the region, and the progress of key government projects.
Ruto arrived in Kisumu on Thursday evening through Kisumu Port, where he was received by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o before heading to State Lodge ahead of the planned engagements.
His visit to Kisumu comes shortly after a stop in Narok, where he launched another section of the Standard Gauge Railway, pointing to the government’s continued push to expand infrastructure across the country.
The Kisumu visit forms part of a wider five-day tour of the Nyanza region running from March 20 to March 24. During this period, the President is expected to launch and inspect several major projects aimed at improving the region’s economy and connectivity.
Among the key projects under focus is the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway, which the government views as a major boost for trade and transport in western Kenya. The railway is expected to open up the region by easing the movement of goods and people.
Beyond development, the tour also carries political weight, as Nyanza continues to play a growing role in national discussions around inclusion, development, and changing political dynamics.
Leaders from the region are likely to use the meetings to push for faster delivery of projects, especially in infrastructure, healthcare, and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.
In Kisumu, residents and local leaders are waiting to hear what the President will announce, with many hoping for updates on infrastructure growth and new economic opportunities linked to the railway and other national plans.
Security has been stepped up in key areas ahead of the visit, with authorities calling on the public to remain calm and maintain order during the President’s engagements.
The tour is set to continue over the weekend with public events, where the President will address residents and launch projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving lives across the region.
