In Summary

The report shows that the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley belt, coastal zones, northeastern counties, and the southeastern lowlands will continue to experience showers during the forecast period. These rains are expected at various times of the day in different locations.

Parts of Kenya will continue to receive rain over the next week as changing weather patterns persist across different regions, the Kenya Meteorological Department has announced.

In its weekly update covering November 4 to November 10, the agency highlighted ongoing rainfall alongside pockets of very warm daytime conditions and cold nights, depending on the region.

Areas along the Coast, Northeastern, and parts of Northwestern Kenya will see dry and hot afternoons, with temperatures expected to rise above 30°C.

The weather office noted that some sections of the western highlands and lowlands in the southeast may also record high daytime temperatures.

At night, some areas will feel much cooler, particularly in the Central Rift Valley, regions close to Mt Kilimanjaro, and parts of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, where temperatures may fall below 10°C.

According to the agency, mornings in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Basin and the Rift Valley will begin mostly sunny, though isolated rain could still form.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur in a few places at the beginning of the week, spreading to more areas as the week advances. Nights are forecast to remain partly cloudy in many regions, with chances of light rain in isolated places.

In the northwest, sunny days and partly cloudy evenings will dominate, though some morning and scattered showers may appear towards the end of the week.

The Highlands east of the Rift Valley will continue to see cloudy mornings with occasional rainfall.

The Coast, southeastern zones, and parts of the northeast will likely experience rain at different times of the day, including some night showers. The department also noted that afternoon rainfall will gradually increase as the days progress.

A review of the past week showed widespread rainfall in most parts of the country. Areas including Kitui, Machakos, Isiolo, Kilifi and Murang’a received heavy downpours.

ADC Japata in Trans Nzoia recorded the highest weekly amount at 184mm, while Kivingoni in Machakos registered 130mm in one day.

With rains already causing harm in several areas, the weather department encouraged residents and county teams to remain alert and review daily weather notices.

Recent downpours led to flash floods, landslides and destruction in many areas. The Ministry of Interior said earlier that the ongoing October–November–December rainfall had resulted in “tragic loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property” in several counties and urged continued caution as rains continue.
