Ahmed Farah has been named the new Executive Director of the East African Business Council (EABC), taking over leadership of the regional body that represents private sector interests across the East African Community (EAC).

The announcement was made by EABC Chairperson John Lual Akol on Tuesday, who confirmed that Farah emerged as the top candidate from a competitive pool of applicants.

He said the appointment follows the Governing Council’s decision to recruit a substantive Executive Director, with an Executive Board Recruitment Committee established to oversee the process.

“The Committee diligently conducted the recruitment exercise, starting with a wide advertisement of the position, which attracted a large and competitive pool of applicants,” Akol added.

Farah is a distinguished expert in trade policy and a former Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) Country Director.

He brings to EABC strong technical expertise and leadership capacity, with a proven track record in regional integration, donor relations, fundraising, and facilitating public-private dialogue within complex EAC regulatory environments.

Akol congratulated Farah on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.

“I also wish to convey sincere appreciation to the EABC Executive Board Recruitment Committee for the diligence, professionalism, and integrity with which it conducted the recruitment process,” he said.

The East African Business Council is a multi-sectoral regional business membership organization for the East African Community (EAC).

It holds the distinction of being the only business membership organization officially granted ‘Observer Status’ in EAC policy formulation and decision-making processes.

EABC is recognized as a champion of regional private sector interests within the EAC Consultative Dialogue Framework and co-chairs the EAC-EABC Technical Working Group, which drives regional policy priorities impacting the private sector.
