Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election, describing her victory as a reflection of the confidence Tanzanians have in her leadership and vision.

In a statement issued on Monday, Museveni extended his felicitations to President Samia and her party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), following the announcement of her win in Tanzania’s recently concluded election.

“I congratulate Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Party on her re-election as President of Tanzania. This victory reflects the confidence that the people of Tanzania have in her leadership and vision,” said Museveni.

He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening the long-standing ties between the two neighbouring countries, emphasizing shared interests in economic cooperation and regional stability.

“Uganda and Tanzania share historic bonds of friendship and cooperation. I look forward to working with President Samia to further strengthen our partnership in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration for the peace and prosperity of our peoples,” he added.

The Tanzanian President took oath of office on Monday, officially signalling the beginning of her second term in office.

Uganda and Tanzania have enjoyed decades of close bilateral relations, anchored in both political and economic collaboration.

The two East African nations have partnered on key projects, including the multi-billion-dollar East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which aims to transport Uganda’s crude oil to the Tanzanian port of Tanga for export.

President Samia’s re-election is seen as a continuation of her administration’s efforts to boost economic growth, promote regional integration, and advance gender inclusivity in leadership across the East African region.

President Museveni’s message underscores Uganda’s desire to maintain strong diplomatic and economic relations with its southern neighbour, with a focus on infrastructure connectivity, cross-border trade, and security collaboration.

President Samia, who first assumed office in 2021 following the death of her predecessor John Magufuli, has been widely credited for steering Tanzania toward greater openness, diplomacy, and investment-friendly reforms.

Regional leaders have been sending congratulatory messages since the official results were declared, reaffirming Tanzania’s role as a key partner in regional peace and economic cooperation under the East African Community (EAC).
