Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has promised that a government under his coalition would focus on boosting development and strengthening devolution in Northern Kenya.
In a video posted on his X account, Kalonzo said communities in the region continue to face major development gaps more than a decade after the introduction of devolution. Many residents still struggle to access basic services such as schools, health facilities, water, and roads.
Kalonzo pointed out that these challenges are not only the result of limited national attention or budget constraints but also reflect weaknesses in how resources have been managed and distributed over the years.
“It is unfortunate that after thirteen years of devolution, many parts of Northern Kenya remain underserved,” he said. “This is not because the region is forgotten in planning, but because the benefits of devolution have not always reached the people as intended.”
He added that his coalition plans to tackle historical inequalities and ensure local communities play a central role in development planning.
“We are making a firm commitment to the people of Northern Kenya,” he said. “We will strengthen devolution, ensure resources are directed to critical services, and guarantee that every county receives what it needs to grow. No region should feel left behind.”
Kalonzo said his team seeks to promote equal opportunities and people-focused leadership, emphasizing that long-term investment in Northern Kenya could unlock wider economic growth.
“Our goal is to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of geography, enjoys the full promise of devolution. Northern Kenya deserves meaningful development and leadership that prioritises community wellbeing,” he said.
He further committed to working with local leaders, communities, and development partners to support education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment. Kalonzo concluded that Northern Kenya would remain a key priority in his coalition’s national agenda.
