Kalonzo, in his remarks, described the endorsement as both symbolic and substantive, saying it reflected trust, confidence and a collective decision by the community to speak with one clear and united voice.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have welcomed the endorsement of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as the leader and spokesperson of the Gusii community, describing the move as a significant step in consolidating the opposition.

Speaking after a gathering in Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, Gachagua said the endorsement signaled unity of purpose within the region and strengthened the United Opposition’s resolve to “liberate” the country.

“A people united on a purpose can never be defeated; the people of Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, we thank you for endorsing our brother Dr. Fred Matiang’i on a charge of the United Opposition to liberate our Nation,” Gachagua said.

He congratulated Matiang’i for what he termed as the community’s clear expression of support.

“Dr. Fred Matiang’i, congratulations my brother! The people have spoken and welcome to the winning team,” he added.

Gachagua noted that he attended the event alongside Kalonzo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Eugene Wamalwa and other leaders from Kisii County.

He said they had “witnessed the will of the people of Nyamira and Kisii counties in the cause.”

Kalonzo, in his remarks, described the endorsement as both symbolic and substantive, saying it reflected trust, confidence and a collective decision by the community to speak with one clear and united voice.

“Ekerenyo in Nyamira County stood tall today. I warmly congratulate my brother, Dr Fred Matiang’i, on being chosen as the leader and spokesperson of the Gusii Community,” Kalonzo said.

He disclosed that the Gusii Council of Elders formally handed Matiang’i the mantle to work alongside other leaders aligned to what he called a shared mission of national renewal.

“Today, the Gusii Council of Elders formally handed him the mantle to work alongside other like-minded Kenyans in the shared mission of liberating this country. Their blessing carries weight and responsibility, affirming that his leadership is anchored in culture, unity and a collective resolve to pursue justice and national renewal,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo further emphasised that leaders within the United Alternative Government coalition were committed to the movement’s objectives.

“As we stand here with my brothers, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua and Hon Eugene Wamalwa, we echo what Dr Fred Matiang’i has declared. No one within the United Alternative Government will betray this movement. Wantam is not a slogan. It is a conviction,” he said.

He added, “It is the people saying enough is enough. It is a movement rooted in accountability, fairness and the restoration of hope.”

The endorsement positions Matiang’i prominently within the opposition’s political architecture as leaders intensify efforts to consolidate regional support ahead of future political contests.
