President William Ruto arrived in Luanda on Monday to attend the 7th African Union–European Union Summit and the Second Session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee on AU Institutional Reform.
The President said the summit provides an opportunity to review 25 years of Africa–Europe cooperation while addressing shifting geopolitical priorities, funding gaps, and rising security pressures.
The AU–EU Summit will focus on strengthening political and economic partnerships, enhancing peace and security collaboration, advancing climate resilience, and supporting youth empowerment through education and innovation.
Leaders are also expected to discuss modernizing development financing and adapting cooperation frameworks to global changes.
During the AU reform session, President Ruto will join discussions aimed at making the African Union more efficient, transparent, and financially sustainable.
He emphasized that reforms are essential to ensure the Union “serves Africa’s needs with greater clarity and impact.”
On the sidelines of the summit, the President is expected to hold bilateral meetings with African and European leaders to strengthen trade, investment, and regional security cooperation.
