The cargo’s parent company, Nestlé, confirmed that the truck was carrying 413,793 units of a new chocolate range at the time of the incident.

Authorities in Italy are investigating the theft of a truck transporting 12 tonnes of KitKat, which went missing while in transit from central Italy to Poland.

The cargo’s parent company, Nestlé, confirmed that the truck was carrying 413,793 units of a new chocolate range at the time of the incident.

The shipment reportedly disappeared last week while moving between production and distribution sites within Europe.

“A truck carrying 413,793 units of our new chocolate range was stolen during its transit in Europe,” the company said in a statement.

While officials have not disclosed the exact location where the theft occurred, the company noted that both the vehicle and its contents remain untraceable.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working closely alongside supply chain partners to determine the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

“Investigations are continuing in close collaboration with local authorities and supply chain partners,” the company added.

The firm also raised concerns that the stolen goods could find their way into unofficial retail channels across European markets.

However, it indicated that the products can be tracked through barcode scanning systems embedded on each item.

“In the event of a match, the scanner will receive clear instructions on how to alert KitKat, which will then pass on this evidence appropriately,” the company said.

Preliminary reports indicate that neither the truck nor its cargo has been recovered, with investigators suspecting the theft may have been a coordinated operation targeting commercial freight.

Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation and are attempting to retrace the vehicle’s route in a bid to identify those responsible.

The incident has heightened concerns over the security of cargo transported along key European logistics corridors.

No arrests have been made so far, and authorities say investigations remain ongoing.
