The brief interruption, set to last four hours, will affect access to critical tax functions across the country

Taxpayers planning to use the iTax platform on Sunday night will have to adjust their schedules after the Kenya Revenue Authority announced a planned system upgrade that will temporarily halt all online services.

The brief interruption, set to last four hours, will affect access to critical tax functions across the country.

In a public notice released over the weekend, the authority informed users that the platform will be switched off at 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, and restored at midnight on Monday, March 2.

“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax from Sunday, 1st March 2026, 8:00 PM to Monday, 2nd March 2026, 12:00 AM,” the notice stated.

Throughout the maintenance period, no transactions will be processed on the system.

Individuals and businesses will not be able to register new PINs, submit tax returns, make electronic payments, or download Tax Compliance Certificates until the exercise is completed.

The interruption will affect PIN applications, which are required for anyone seeking to enter the tax register and access digital services offered by KRA.

Return submission will also be paused during the four-hour window, even as many taxpayers continue with the annual filing cycle that runs between January and June.

Those intending to create Payment Registration Numbers, used to complete tax payments online, will be forced to wait until the system reopens after midnight.

The downtime will also block access to the Tax Compliance Certificate service, a document often demanded for tender participation and other formal business dealings.

In addition, users will be unable to check their tax ledgers, confirm payment records, or review their current tax standing in real time.

The iPage feature, which allows taxpayers to amend registration details such as contact information, employer data, and county of residence, will also be unavailable for the duration of the maintenance.

The withholding tax certificate function, which enables payers to generate deduction certificates directly through the portal, is among the services that will go offline.

KRA acknowledged that the temporary suspension may inconvenience those with urgent tax matters scheduled for Sunday night. “Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” stated KRA.

The authority has advised taxpayers to finalise any pressing transactions before 8:00 PM to avoid delays linked to the scheduled upgrade
