KeNHA warned motorists that driving through the flooded parts of the highway could be extremely dangerous, as vehicles risk being carried away by water or trapped in mud.

Teams from the Kenya National Highways Authority are working to restore traffic along the Mai Mahiu - Susa - Narok (B7) Road after flooding and silt accumulation caused disruptions earlier today at Kedong Ranch near Suswa.

The Authority said heavy rains had washed mud and debris onto the road, making it unsafe for vehicles to pass.

“The Authority is currently working to reopen the affected section of the road.”

KeNHA warned motorists that driving through the flooded parts of the highway could be extremely dangerous, as vehicles risk being carried away by water or trapped in mud.

Drivers were advised to heed instructions from police officers and traffic marshals deployed to manage movement along the corridor.

“Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flooded areas and to strictly follow instructions from the police and traffic marshals to prevent being washed away or getting stuck in silt deposits.”

The Authority said the heavy rainfall in the region was ongoing, increasing the risk of further flooding along the road. Motorists were urged to be vigilant, particularly between Naivasha Inland Container Depot at kilometre 14 and Suswa Ranch at kilometre 39, where conditions were reported to be most hazardous.

“As the area continues to receive heavy rainfall, motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when driving through various sections of the road, particularly between Naivasha ICD (Km 14) and Suswa Ranch (Km 39).”

KeNHA advised those who have not yet embarked on their journey to use the Ngong - Suswa Road to avoid the flooded sections.

“Motorists who have not yet commenced their journeys are advised to consider using the Ngong - Suswa Road as an alternative route.”

The Authority assured road users that it is making every effort to clear the road and ensure safe travel, with crews working round the clock to reopen the affected section.

“KeNHA assures all road users that it is working around the clock to restore normal traffic flow and ensure the safety of motorists.”
