Motorists using Uhuru Highway and the Haile Selassie Avenue roundabout in Nairobi have been advised to plan for temporary disruptions following an announcement by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on planned road closures.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, KeNHA said several sections of the Uhuru Highway/Haile Selassie Avenue roundabout will be temporarily closed as part of Phase II road works to allow for the reinstatement of the tarmac asphalt concrete layer.
According to the notice, the affected road sections include lanes bound for the Central Business District (CBD), Upper Hill, Mombasa, and Nakuru.
The closures will be implemented in phases during off-peak hours between 10 pm and 5 am.
The works are scheduled to run from Friday, January 23, 2026, to Sunday, January 25, 2026.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of road sections on Uhuru Highway/Haile Selassie Avenue roundabout,” the authority said in the notice.
KeNHA explained that the night-time schedule was designed to minimise inconvenience to road users while allowing critical resurfacing works to be completed safely and efficiently.
The authority urged motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan during the period and to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed on site to manage traffic flow.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the notice read.
Eng. Luka Kimeli, the Acting Director General of KeNHA, assured road users that the works are part of ongoing efforts to improve road quality and safety along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors.
KeNHA has in recent months intensified maintenance and rehabilitation works on major highways in and around Nairobi, as traffic volumes continue to rise and pressure on existing infrastructure increases.
Motorists have been encouraged to seek alternative routes where possible and to allow extra travel time during the affected nights as the works proceed.
