KeNHA, in a statement dated March 21, 2026, said the floods have rendered the affected section unsafe for motorable traffic.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has warned over flooding on the Molo River in Nakuru County, located along the Eldama Ravine – Maji Mazuri – Molo Road.

KeNHA, in a statement dated March 21, 2026, said the floods have rendered the affected section unsafe for motorable traffic.

The Authority said the situation has been caused by heavy rainfall in upstream catchment areas, which has led to a significant rise in water levels at the Molo River.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and strictly follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals deployed at the site to ensure their safety.

KeNHA advised that where travel is unavoidable, motorists can use alternative routes including the Eldama Ravine – Mogotio – Salgaa – Nakuru Road and the Eldama Ravine – Kabarnet – Marigat – Mogotio Road.

Motorists approaching from Nakuru have also been advised to use the Nakuru – Salgaa – Ravine Road.

"KeNHA is closely monitoring the situation and will take appropriate action should water levels continue to rise," read a statement by its Director General, Luka Kimeli.

The Authority also thanked road users for their cooperation as efforts continue to ensure the safety of all motorists.

This comes hours after motorists using the Kaplong–Kisii highway were urged to exercise caution and seek alternative routes after flooding rendered a key bridge section impassable.

In a traffic advisory issued on March 21, 2026, KeNHA said the Kipsonoi River Bridge at Mugeni, located between Sotik and Chebilat along the Kaplong–Kisii (B6) Road, had experienced significant flooding following heavy rainfall in upstream catchment areas.

“The Kipsonoi River Bridge at Mugeni… has experienced flooding, rendering the section unsafe for motorable traffic,” the authority said in the advisory.

According to KeNHA, the flooding was triggered by sustained rains that caused a sharp rise in water levels, submerging sections of the bridge and posing a risk to road users.

The agency warned that the situation could worsen if rainfall continues in the affected catchment zones.

The advisory comes as heavy rains continue to pound several parts of the country.
