A fresh wave of appointments to key state agencies was unveiled on Friday after the government issued a Gazette notice outlining changes across several boards, marking a new phase in the leadership of regulatory and public institutions.

In the notice dated February 27, 2026, Cabinet Secretaries exercised powers granted under various laws to reappoint and name new members to boards overseeing standards, retirement benefits, health regulation, agriculture research, youth funding, water development and arbitration services.

At the National Standards Council, Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui renewed the terms of Francis Kuria, Grace Momanyi and Stephen Yego. The three will continue serving on the council for another three years beginning February 27, 2026.

The Retirement Benefits Authority also recorded a change in leadership. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Abdi Mohamed as the non-executive Chairperson of the RBA Board, placing him at the helm of the body that regulates pension schemes in the country.

In the health sector, the Clinical Officers Council received a new team of board members. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed Kipkoech Geoffrey, Joseph Wachira, Shadrack Asena, Pauline Korere, Abdirahman Mohamed and Salma Abdi to serve for a three-year term.

The agriculture sector was not left out. Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe appointed Joseph Too, Frederick North-Coombes, Kizito Wangalwa and Vasey Mwaja to the board of the Kenya Sugar Research and Training Institute, strengthening oversight at the institution tasked with research and training in the sugar industry.

Youth empowerment initiatives also featured in the changes. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya reappointed Fatma Barayan as the non-executive chairperson of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund Board, allowing her to continue steering the fund that supports young entrepreneurs.

In the water sector, Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa appointed Isack Fayo to the Northern Water Works Development Agency, adding to the leadership of the agency responsible for water infrastructure development in the region.

Attorney General Dorcas Oduor made appointments at the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration. She named Miriam Bomett to the centre and renewed the term of Samuel Nderitu, maintaining continuity in the institution that handles arbitration matters.

Separately, President William Ruto formally appointed Francis Meja as the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission for a six-year term. The appointment, also dated February 27, 2026, was made under Article 250(2) of the Constitution and in line with the procedures set out in the First Schedule of the Public Service Commission Act.

The series of appointments and reappointments takes effect as outlined in the Gazette notice, ushering in new and returning faces to boards that play a central role in regulation, service delivery and governance across the country.
