A fresh wave of appointments and reappointments across government agencies has been announced by several Cabinet Secretaries, in a move that touches key sectors including finance, labour, education, trade, and regional development.

In a gazette notice dated April 17, 2026, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi renewed the terms of five members of the Privatisation Commission for two years, with their new tenure set to begin on April 27, 2026. Those reappointed are Edward Kobuthi, Dr Irene Njeri Wanyoike, Celine Anyango Orata, David J.O. Nyakang’o, and Ambassador Wellington Pakia Godo.

The Treasury docket also moved to set up a Search and Selection Panel tasked with recruiting independent directors for government-owned enterprises. The panel will serve for three years from April 17, 2026.

"The Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury appoints— Under subsection 6(a)— Frank Mwiti, FCPA Risper Olick, Quresha Abdullahi, FCS Joshua Wambua, Under subsection 6(b)— Lawrence Kibet, to be Members of the Search and Selection Panel for the Recruitment of Independent Directors of the Government Owned Enterprises, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 17th April, 2026," the notice said.

At the Ministry of Labour, Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua reappointed Isaac Kaberia and Dr Milkah Kimonda as trustees of the National Social Security Fund Board. Their new term will run for three years starting April 17, 2026.

In the regional development sector, Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe renewed the terms of several board members at the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority. Those reappointed for a three-year term are Caroline Pulei, Eunice Singoei, Mathew Gathua, Elijah Kesei Metian, Veronica Silantoi Mwangi, William Kenteyia, and Silas Otieno Ojienda Victor.

Changes were also made in the trade sector, where Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui reappointed five members to the Kenya Leather Development Council. At the same time, Rev Kenneth Maina Wanjiru was brought in as a new board member, also for a three-year term.

In the housing and lands ministry, Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome retained Dr Victor O. Olonde and appointed Rashid Haron Shake to the Valuers Registration Board, both for a three-year term.

The education sector also saw leadership changes in several institutions. Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba extended the terms of chairpersons and board members at national polytechnics including Kitale, Meru, Kenya Coast, and Nyeri, giving them an additional three years in office.

Meanwhile, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku appointed Dr Eldah Onsomu to the Kenya School of Government Council, where she will serve for three years.

The series of appointments, most of which take effect from April 17, 2026, cut across major government functions such as education, trade, labour, infrastructure, and economic planning, reflecting ongoing adjustments within state corporations.
