In a statement issued on March 15, 2026, PSK demanded that Dr. Obwaka be granted immediate and unconditional bail, saying it is his right under Kenyan law.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) has raised concern over the arrest of veteran obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr. Job Obwaka, who is reportedly being detained at Muthaiga Police Station.

In a statement issued on March 15, 2026, PSK demanded that Dr. Obwaka be granted immediate and unconditional bail, saying it is his right under Kenyan law.

The medic’s arrest is reportedly linked to allegations of falsifying membership records, a function the society says falls under the mandate of the Company Secretary and not individual directors.

PSK said the circumstances surrounding the arrest raise concerns about fairness and due process.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional granting of bail to Dr. Obwaka, as is his right under Kenyan law,” the society said in the statement.

The body further called on authorities to clearly explain the basis of the arrest and ensure that investigations are conducted lawfully and without intimidation.

The umbrella body for pharmacists in the country said it fully supported the positions taken by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), the Kenya Medical Association (KMA), and the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS) in calling for justice and due process in the matter.

Earlier on Sunday, KPMDU, through its Secretary General Davji Atellah, condemned Dr. Obwaka's arrest.

In a statement on March 14, 2026, the union said the doctor was arrested at his clinic at the NSSF Building and is accused of falsifying a members’ register, an allegation it argues falls outside his mandate and occurred when he was not present.

The doctors’ union said the arrest of the elderly medic had sent shockwaves through the country’s medical community.

“Earlier this morning, Dr. Obwaka was arrested under unclear and disturbing circumstances at his parking bay at the NSSF Building in Nairobi, where his clinic is located. Following the arrest, he was transferred to Muthaiga Police Station, where he is currently being held,” the statement read in part.

The union described Dr. Obwaka as a long-serving practitioner who has dedicated decades to providing care to mothers and families across Kenya.

“Dr. Obwaka is a highly respected practitioner who has devoted his professional life to the service of mothers, families, and the broader Kenyan community,” KMPDU said, noting that the arrest had caused “great shock, concern, and disbelief among doctors across the country.”

PSK also urged pharmacists in Milimani Law Courts and across Nairobi to show up in solidarity when Dr. Obwaka is arraigned in court on Monday.
