Her election was confirmed during the Commission’s 288th Plenary Meeting held on Friday, July 11, at the agency’s boardroom.
The Chief Justice challenged the commission to confront weaknesses within the IEBC and deliver reforms that would make it a trusted institution.
The IEBC boss also highlighted the growing threat of disinformation, saying the commission must work closely with media outlets to ensure truth is prioritised over falsehoods.
Their swearing-in comes just a day after a bench of three High Court judges cleared their appointments, dismissing a petition that had challenged the legality of their nomination process.
A significant portion, Sh2.7 billion, is linked to legal fees owed to at least a dozen law firms, while the rest includes Sh360 million for logistics, mostly owed to the Postal Corporation of Kenya, and Sh920 million under other miscellaneous claims.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, a three-judge bench—comprising Justices Roselyne Aburili, John Chigiti, and Bahati Mwamuye—dismissed a petition filed by Kelvin Roy Omondi and activist Boniface Mwangi.
This means the President will now be required to issue a fresh Gazette Notice that aligns with the court orders, after which the officials can be sworn in and assume office.
