Odongo names Lionesses squad for Montevideo legs as Auma returns

Sharon Auma returns to the 13-player Kenya women's national rugby sevens team squad announced on Friday in Nairobi by head coach Simon Odongo.

Phoebe Akinyi and Grace Adhiambo will miss the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series Division Two legs in Montevideo and Sao Paulo.

Speaking during the unveiling at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa, Odongo said Phoebe Akinyi fractured her ankle during the first leg in Nairobi, while Grace Adhiambo is committed to her club Racing 92, which plays in France’s Elite 2 division.

“We have Sharon Auma completing the squad. Though we didn’t perform well in Nairobi, we will bounce back in Uruguay and Brazil,” said Odongo, adding that he remains confident the team can qualify for Division One rugby.

Kenya finished fifth in the Nairobi leg and will next compete in Montevideo, Uruguay on March 21–22, 2026, before heading to Sao Paulo, Brazil for the tournament scheduled for March 28–29.
